NSW, Vic Governments release agriculture and the CPRS report

- Friday, September 11, 2009

The NSW and Victorian Governments have released the report of some research conducted by Acil-Tasman, which has examined the role of agriculture in the Australian Carbon Pollution Reduction Scheme.

Not surprisingly, the research concluded that the CPRS was not a suitable policy mechanism for the agriculture sector, and that instead, alternative policies should be developed that provide incentives for farmers to explore different ways to reduce emissions.  The report concludes that this should initially be developed via a voluntary offset market, not unlike that being proposed in the USA.
